The Summit Calling

This month marks two years of The Summit System. What a way to celebrate than here in Nashville at the EntreLeadership Master Series with Dave Ramsey!

Two years ago I said yes to a loud inner voice that had been asking me to do something I’d never done before, something that felt like Mount Everest looks. Intimidating and impossible.

Luckily, the call to answer was too great to turn down. So, I said yes. Hesitantly, of course, and certainly I didn’t really tell anyone at first. After all, they would likely think I had gone crazy. It was entirely too big of an idea. Instead I played it safe, kept to myself and prayed. I journaled about this “one” person. If “she” came to me and needed my help, what would I say? What questions did I have for “her”? What were “Her” struggles? Desires? Fears? Regrets? Quieted passions? How was “she” speaking to herself? What did she really need?

I spent about two weeks praying, journaling, painting, anything I could do to allow creative flow. As the answers became clear it was evident that this idea was beyond bigger than myself. It was a divine vision. There was simply no other explanation. So I called my friend and Naturopathic Doctor, Nikki Wilson.

“Hey Girl”, I said cautiously yet eagerly, “I have a really crazy idea and I want your help.” “Oh, those are my favorite!”, she replied, “Come on over!” And that was that, Summit’s journey began. Two weeks later, we had sixteen people sitting in front of us listening intently as we stood side by side sharing the vision of our latest passion project. Needless to say, all sixteen people signed up and said yes! Within a few weeks we realized we were onto something and two months later on, January 4, 2019, we opened to the public. And the story goes on.

You see, Summit is a gift to me, to you, to the world. When God calls us to something, he may allow us free will to arrive in our own time but the call doesn’t stop. For me, Summit is a lifetime of saying “yes” to divine opportunities that to the human eye don’t seem to make any sense. For me, they made great sense even if I didn’t have the words to explain it. For many, many years, I sacrificed looking silly, flaky, or dramatic in honor of a bigger calling. Sometimes, you just have to say YES to what your gut is telling you to do. No. Matter. What. Makes. Sense.

I often say, if you would have told me five years ago that I would write and own a successful weight loss company, I would have laughed in your face. I don’t believe in diets and certainly never thought I’d be responsible for people, their families and their ability to pay their bills! But, today, just a few years in, I have to say, this climb has me all fired up. I am humbled and proud to lead you, both in health and in leadership to a bigger calling for both of us.
